Note from the Artist about "Gathering Leaves": 'The leaves for this picture were gathered from a beautiful big old silver birch, planted over 30 years ago in memory of my grandmother, in the garden of the 500 year old cottage where I grew up. I had to take my leave of this tree when finally the house was sold. I wanted to try and transform my sense of loss into a celebration of the many gatherings of family and friends, the parties, and the ballgowns that had danced and wheeled on the lawn under that tree'
